OG or Modern Mix

Not to sound like a a broken record, but did I mention…

“I don’t do cold weather!”

It’s Wednesday folks and also bitterly cold (like 0 degree cold). I shared back in December that I would be all for doing a collective quarantine/hibernation during the months of January through March but it seems that no one is listening and instead, I would become exponentially busy and not able to conduct all of my business from underneath the heated blanket. Not complaining, just setting the scene.

Here we are, plowing through a morning that I learned yesterday would be cut short due to an early dismissal I apparently had no recollection of. And at approximately 8:05 the 9 am “phone call” with a writer I had planned to do from my bed, turned into a “video call” that I would need my ring light (at the office) for to appear as if I had my ducks in a row.

We chatted for almost an hour about my personal old house journey and related career and I enjoyed reminiscing on how far I had come since day dreaming about what it would be like on a day just like today.

Those gentle reminders help me take responsibility even the most minuscule of decisions and actions I make throughout the day. Within each moment, I create the life I want, the life that I am seeking. And in each day is the life that I want.

Client projects are going well, concepts are being ironed out and presentations are being built. No matter the project, or the client’s unique needs, I follow our Design Process to keep both the clients and I on track and meeting expectations. Even while timelines are exasperated by the current supply chain it helps everyone know what step is next and also keeps the project moving, even if at snails pace.

Within my client book I have three client kitchens that are each very different and will require vastly different designs. For me. finding myself in this situation is literally the thing that dreams are made of. While the ease of creating a repetitive design could be logistically appealing, I am obsessed with playing with different materials, layouts, styles, and color palettes and creating a space that is not only functional but creatively different and unique to each client.

One kitchen in particular will have this striking juxtaposition between very traditional lines and overtly modern elements. While another kitchen will be the most subtle, almost undetectable, design that appears to have always been with the home. When considering design for your own home which way do you lean? I believe the personal preference will always be slightly on the side of a modern mix but I am equally obsessed with exploring the subtle beauty in a “OG” design as well. How about you?
