Nice to Meet You!!

Black House is back in action after an unexpected two week hiatus! Oops! The “Leslie” & “Tyler” got hitched, and our online store has launched and is live! With so much happening at our firm I thought it best to give a formal introduction of who we are, what we do, and who we do it for. Many of our followers on social media are not our clients, and vice versa. Here is my best attempt at making the “Leslie” “Tyler” “Black House” & “Seven” all make a bit more sense.

My first name is Reagan, I am the Creative Director and Senior Designer at Leslie Tyler Design. We are a boutique design firm based in Peoria Illinois specializing in design within historical architecture. We are skilled at executing a contemporary aesthetic in a way that highlights and honors the historical character of the spaces we create. We take great care in working with trades to ensure that historical craftsmanship in the homes and commercial spaces we are entrusted with are honored. We work closely with clients to ensure their character, what they love, what evokes their emotional connection to the space, is honored as well. It is a delicate dance that I am proud to say Leslie Tyler Design has mastered beautiful.

We have opened our calendar for 2020 and would love to get you on it!

So what’s with the names? “Leslie” and “Tyler” are my and my husband’s middle names, respectively. We have been partners in business for little over five years. In addition to design we also own and operate a logistics firm. We have found over the years that when working closely with your significant other it is nice to have a alter ego to revert to. You’ll often catch me proclaiming “Do ya’ thang Tyler!”. We make a good team and balance each other’s creative eye, for that I am forever grateful. But it is beautiful when I get to go home with simply “Austin”.

“Seven” is our daughter and muse. She will soon be two and I always credit her as our motivation through and through. Becoming parents, like many can attest, forced us to really assess what we were doing with our lives. Not that we felt it was being wasted but we knew that how we walked through my life would now be her example. Allowing her to witness her parents building a life they were passionate about, pushed us to take the leap and establish Leslie Tyler Design.

“Black House” is what we call our home. It is not entirely black but we do use the hue quite often. We love the depth and mood it evokes in a space, and have convinced a few doubtful clients that a black ceiling won’t necessarily make your room feel shorter. If you follow us on social media we go by @BlackHouseSeven as we want to allow our social media followers a peek inside the behind the scenes, day-to-day of our lives. We do our best to make “social media”, “social” and a two way conversation surrounding old homes and design.

This past Black Friday, we had the joy of launching our online boutique. A collection of curated home goods whose value far exceeds the price tag. When sourcing for our clients we were often disappointed at what was readily available. If it was not custom rather pricey, goods were often mass produced, which unfortunately meant poorly made. Clients came to our firm for our expertise in fusing their family heirloom with the sleek and modern glass coffee table they could not live without. They deserved a curated interior that was not a “cookie cutter” version of a room found on the shelves of your local big box store.

I always had this tendency of hoarding amazing finds. Whenever I found something that I thought was AMAZING I convinced myself that if I did not save said piece it may end up in the trash not because it wasn’t AMAZING but because the owner just wouldn’t “get it”. Leslie Tyler Home Store is our effort to bring our clients and customers a unique, cataloged, resource for shopping small batch, handmade goods. Our inventory is always changing and will evolve over time. It also is a Tyler approved outlet for my hoarding addiction.

We have been busy this month preparing for 2020! We have been working hard to create more focused content and ways of meeting the needs of our clients through increased partnerships with our local community of creatives. We look forward to sharing those projects in the next coming months and want to hear from you! Please share what is happening in your world of design. What do you want to see, hear from, read about!!
