Abby Gettys established her interior design firm in 2014. Procuring original art for her clients' homes reinforced her belief in the philosophy that the best way to support the arts is to buy art. Collecture was founded in an effort to advocate for artists and emphasize the importance of incorporating art in interior design.

“I researched queer and black identity in the U.K. and became fixated on the architecture and flora. This parallel of a rigid building material with soft bright colors surrounding it stuck out in my mind, pairing softness with rigidity. My artwork for Collecture reflects that contrast of brick and floral while exploring ideas of softness and femininity in a society that does not always embrace these facets of one's identity.”

“Sensation of the body is fluid like a flow of endless water. It glides past our intellectual concepts, washes away the subject/object split, and blurs the line of separation between our internal bodies and the external world. Sensation combats isolation and brings vitality to our bodies. The painted canvas greets this unsayable realm with radiant color and viscerality. I paint how sensation remains tight to the body. I paint how sensation expands and electrifies an entire space with glowing light. My paintings evoke these peaceful, sublime, and erotic feelings. Sensation is meant to be seen.

The Collaboration with Collecture brings the paintings back into the tactile realm. As textiles, these objects are not only a reflection on sensation, but they create their own unique sensations.”
